I've been to 6 continents and upper tens of countries. I traveled the world for 9 months straight on my gap year, and since then I've traveled regularly internationally and domestically. Over the years I've accumulated a few tips that make travel easier and more enjoyable.
Airport Clothing
I used to be more of a sweat pants person, and still think they can be useful, but often if you're packing light sweat pants might not make the cut. When you're traveling through airports you can either use pants that fit just right and don't sag (which can be tough if you have stuff in your pocket), use pants that have draw strings, or use belts that don't have metal in them.
Also, use sandals like Birkenstocks or something you can slip off easily if you need to, and can accommodate comfy compression socks.
Film
My wife takes a lot of film photos. If you do, you want to be wary of high powered x-ray equipment that might expose your negatives; in those cases, ask the security staff to hand check the film (they might still say no!) and make it easy for them by putting in a clear zip lock.
Payments
- Make sure you have cash for places for emergencies. Diversify with people you're traveling with, in different parts of your luggage so you don't lose it.
- Use digital wallets.
